Week 53-ខ្ញុំបានបម្រើបេសកកម្មមួយឆ្នាំ

Hello! Sister Benson and I hit our year mark together this last week on the 22. We didn't do anything crazy like burn anything... but we made smores over the stove!!

The rain came down hard this week. We were biking to get to a members house because her house always floods really bad and we were going to go help her. We knew it would be really flooded over there but didn't realize how high the water would be! The water was higher than our tires and we struggled to keep peddling. The worst part is the water is black due to the trash and sewage. A school had just got out and all the kids had their books above their heads as they walked through the water. Some of them had bikes also! The problem with riding your bikes when it floods is all the trash (because there is no trash system) is in the water and gets stuck in your gears and wheels and chain. A little boy was on the side of the road out of the water trying to pull stuff out of his tire while also trying to keep his books from getting wet. I felt like I should go help him and I pulled over to the side of the road and put my foot down. And then......My worst nighmare happened. My bike is a little tall for me so I have to lean fully to one side to touch the ground. When I put my foot out to place on the ground, my foot went in a drain and down I went. Luckily my Khmer Book of Mormon and my Book of Mormon were all in waterproof bags but yes, I went ALL THE WAY UNDER. So gross. I'm not sure how I didn't twist my ankle... I was blessed I guess! I remember my first time riding my bike through water like that last year and I laughed at the thought of someone falling in it... One Year later...Karma...
At district meeting we were discussing the importance of listening to the spirit when testifying or sharing a personal experience because the spirit will let you know what others need to hear. The Sunday before our recent convert was in the 2nd hour of church and we were talking about baptism. The teacher asked her if she would share with everyone about her experience she shared at her baptism. Her experience she previously shared was about prayer and reading your scriptures. Instead she started sharing about an experience she had with fasting. While she was sharing, I kinda laughed to myself because it was not on topic and wasn't what the teacher wanted her to share but nevertheless, it was still a good personal experience. At district meeting, Elder Ouk (He is one of my friends that I met before my mission at CICFO. Now I serve with him in TTP area and we serve as AP's together. He is amazing!!) He told me when Bong Rany shared her experience on fasting, it was an answer to his prayer for his investigators. The day before he had taught his investigators about fasting and they were having a hard time understanding why it was important or necessary. When they heard Bong Rany share her experience and testimony it was exactly what they needed to hear. Elder Ouk was thankful that Bong Rany was in tune with the spirit and was able to share her story to help those investigators. So cool. I was so proud of Bong Rany for listening to the spirit. That is so important. There have been so many times in my mission where I could not understand what the investigator or member was saying and I had to fully rely on the Spirit to know what to say back. I know that when we listen to the Holy Ghost, He will help us know that the investigator needs to hear to touch their heart. Sister Benson and I had an experience together that in the middle of a meeting where a member was sharing her personal trials she was going through we both had the same scripture come into our mind. When Sister Benson asked the member to read the scripture out loud it reassured me that we were both in tune with the Spirit and had unity in our companionship. Having the Spirit is awesome.

This week I learned the word for sink, becasuse our sink is broken, and it is "snook tuk"! hahah Yessss.

One year. Pretty crazy. I can't believe a year ago I didn't know any khmer. I remember opening my class room door and my teacher asking me over and over what my name was and me having no idea how to respond. I wish I could of videoed that. I also can't believe how much I've changed. I feel like a whole new person and I feel like I actually know my Savior. I am so thankful for Him and His Atonement. Before I use to think the Atonement was just something used when you sin and you used it to repent and be clean again. Which is true, but it is so much more. It is an amazing gift we were all given to help us through this life because life is not easy, nor will it ever be. But, we can find peace and comfort in the Atonement of Jesus Christ. There has been so many times I have felt the Savior help me whether it be in the language, being able to keep biking in the heat, or to be able to leave the house when I feel dead tired. He is always there and always willing to help us because He loves us.

This Church is True and I love the Gospel with all my heart. I love being a missionary and having the privilege to help people come to know their savior.

Thank you so much! Love you all!

ប្រសិនបើអ្នកអាចអានអ៊ីម៉ែលនេះប្រាប់ខ្ញុំពីសត្វដែលអ្នកចូលចិត្ត

I bet you didn't know Cambodia has ice skating? This is from a few weeks ago.. But we got to do it for free which was great.

Week 52- HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

First off, I have to tell my dad Happy Father's day!! I love you so much! Thank you for being my biggest cheerleader no matter if I was winning a basketball game by 50 or loosing by 50. You are always there for me! I love you so much!

I don't have a ton of time (I think I say that every week) because we are moving appartments this week due to the KTV/Club that plays music all night long thats right next door. I will miss falling alseep to khmer music. But on the bright side, I know a ton of Khmer music now. I can't wait to play it in the car and sing along to it. You guys will love it so much. Also, I finally get to move houses! I have been in the same house since out of my trainning! HA! So since November! Packing all my stuff has been so hard.

This last week I said bye to Sister Hall. So sad. But now she is reunited with her amazing family and I have my new amazing companion Sister Benson! She came in the same group as me so this week we will be hitting our year mark together! It will be a lot of fun with Sister Benson!

Yesterday we did an activity with the members where they acted like missionaires. They had a "mini schedule" and planned to do exercise for 5 minutes, 10 minutes of planning, 10 mins of personal study, 10 min of companion study, 10 mins of language study (English), and then they taught a 15-20 min lesson. They loved it! Sister Benson and I were the investigators. The people that taught us were a little nervous and said some funny things.  Probably the best line was, "You are baptized by a prophet and then when you are confirmed, three prophets come and put their hands on your head and give you a blessing." Sister Benson and I tried to hold it together. We made sure to clear up the false docrtine with them. But I loved that they were so happy to act like missionaries and share what they knew!  In the middle of the lesson one of the girls randomly asked, "So will you be baptized? It is the best thing ever!"  Missionary work is fun! Everyone should try it.

Shout out to Kaden for going to college this week! I can't believe you are so old. Good luck and have fun!

Week 51- Sorry for the Lame Letter

This will be short! We got our transfer calls and I will be staying in my area and my new companion will be SISTER BENSON!! I am so excited! Sister Benson is one of the Sisters in my group! It will be so much fun to be with her!

This week consisted of Sister Hall having to say to goodbye to everyone and it was the saddest thing to watch. I'm so glad I was able to serve with her for two transfers! She is an amazing missionary. One thing I love about her is that we had fun while we were doing the work. She has helped so many people in Cambodia and such a good example to us.

Like I said, I don't have a lot. Have a good week!

Week 50- Kampong Cham for a day, YAY!

Hey Guys!!!!
Congrats to Kaden for Graduating!!!!  You're so old!  It's weird to think two years ago, I graduated and left with my mom, Kaden, and some friends ( you know who you are <3) to Cambodia for the first time. Little did I know it was preparing me for my mission!! and good job Jessie, Dallin and Carson for finishing the year strong and getting good grades! As Uncle Ryan would say, "You guys Killed it!!"

This will be a short email because Sister Hall only has two more Pday :( so we partying hard these next pdays and cutting down on our email time. But this email is insane. Mom, you will have to take note of this week and remind me tell you more about it when I get home and read you my journal because it was insane.
Speaking of INSANE....
We followed this guy for at least three hours... Who needs AC when you can just chill on top of a car on the highway?

So yesterday was a huge voting day for all the Khmer Missionaries and every Khmer was encouraging to vote. In order for them to vote they have to go back to their home areas. It was super complicated and Sister Hall and I had to arrange all the traveling information. But of course it can't all work out perfectly otherwise it wouldnt be an adventure. We went to take one of the Sisters to the bus station with the Office Elders and they were sold out tickets. So we called President and we were told we were going to drop everything and leave the city and go into the provinces (the more jungle side of Cambodia.) We followed President's orders and drove the mission car with the Office Elders to Kampong Cham. We got to meet the Sister's family, let her vote, and go see some return missionaries that live in Kampong Cham also. One of the missionaries had served in the area before so while we were waiting for sacrament to start we had time to kill and met some members.
This is Sister Chhil and we got to go to her house and meet her family! Notice how my shirt is inside out? We woke up at 5:30 and we had to be at the bus stop by 6:15am. It was a rough morning... hahah

We were driving in the middle of no where and got a flat tire. Thank goodness for the Senior Couple, Elder and Sister Curtis! They saved the day for us when we were stranded in the middle of no where.
We got a flat tire and Elder Ashcroft was a champ and took care of it. That poor white shirt of his...

I also saw my Trainee, Sister Heang! I trained her back in January and due to some family problems back at home, she had to be released. Seeing her was the best! I hope and pray she will have another chance to come back out and serve! Anyways, when I woke up at 5:30 am, I was not expecting a day like this-but I'm always up for an adventure!
SISTER HEANG!!!

Sister Hall and I at a return missionaries house

We had our recent convert call us today crying with joy because yesterday she was able to keep her first fast ever! She said it was a miracle because everytime she would get hungery she would pray and the hunger would go away! Her faith is so strong. Before I took fasting for granted and didn't really put my whole heart and soul into. My testimony has grown a ton for fasting. I remember the first time I fasted as a missionary and it was the coolest experience. There has been many times on my mission when we would fast for investigators and we would walk into church and there would be a handful of new people who just wanted to stop by and see our church. SO cool. The Lord listens.

Love You All!!
